The Summers Strolls and festivals are a cornerstone of life in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn. Filled with music, food, shopping, and friends, these events occur throughout the spring, summer, and early fall. Check out the latest 2024 dates and times for our local strolls.

Unlike prior years, the Bay Ridge 5th Avenue Business Improvement District only has a single Fun on Fifth festival this year, kicking off the summer season on the first Sunday in June!

Fun On Fifth Festival

Sunday, June 2nd
Between 69th & 85th St.
10:00 am – 6:00 pm

July

The rest of the summer is exclusively taken up by 3rd Avenue Strolls every single Friday evening, running from July through August. The event alternates every week between southern 3rd Avenue and northern 3rd Avenue, divided at 82nd street.

3rd Avenue will close to vehicular traffic on each segment starting around 4pm (according to the NYC DOT), and will re-open to traffic around 10pm, shortly after the end of the stroll.

Will the B37 bus run during the 3rd Avenue Summer Stroll in Bay Ridge?

Yes! However, the B37 will instead run parallel to 3rd Avenue along 4th Avenue for the duration of the Summer Stroll.

Does the Avenue close to traffic during the Bay Ridge Summer Stroll?

Yes, the part of the avenue hosting the festival will be closed to all traffic for the duration of the event, with NYPD barricades keeping traffic out. Traffic usually begins getting blocked off around two hours before each event, and cars will be towed if they’re parked on the avenue during that time. Keep in mind that most cross streets will remain open for local traffic to get down the side-streets, so be careful when heading up and down the avenues.

What time do Bay Ridge Summer Strolls Start?

It depends on the avenue, though the 3rd Avenue strolls usually go later, and the 5th Avenue strolls go a little earlier. For 2024 for example, the Third Avenue strolls begin at 6pm and runs until 10pm, though vendors often begin setting up an hour beforehand, and a handful of vendors may begin closing down early. The Fun on Fifth festival for 2024 begins at 10am and runs until 6pm.

What is the best time to attend a Bay Ridge Summer Stroll?

Summer Strolls are busiest around mealtimes. For Fifth Avenue “Fun On Fifth” festivals, that is lunch, from noon until 2pm, and for Third Avenue Summer Strolls that is around dinnertime from 6pm to 8pm.

How do I register a booth at a Bay Ridge Summer Stroll?

The 3rd Avenue stroll is overseen by The Merchants of 3rd Avenue. The Fun on 5th festival is run by the Bay Ridge 5th Avenue BID. You can check out their respective websites for more information. If you wish to sell products, be sure to have a Sales Tax Identification Number handy and any relevant DCA/DOH licenses. Registration often closes around May, so be sure to apply early!

Is there outdoor dining at Bay Ridge Summer Strolls?

Yes! Many local restaurants along the route will expand their dining and seating areas into the street. Many restaurants also will host live music near these seating areas.

Are Bay Ridge Summer Strolls suitable for children?

Absolutely. Many booths will provide games and activities for kids, and rides and bouncy castles often occupy the ends of each stroll (and occasionally live animal rides). Toy vendors are also common at the various strolls, including performances from local youth martial arts and dance groups. Fun On Fifth festivals also often include open play areas for kids to run around without having to deal with nearby booths or dining areas.
